Spring is on the way pranayama
Spring is on the way! During this time of awakening in the natural world, life can begin to speed up a bit. This breathing exercise will help to calm the nervous system and keep you relaxed and steady, in and out, during a time of change.Humming Bee Breath (Bhramari Pranayama)- Find a comfortable seated or kneeling position in which you can relax and lengthen through the spine- Inhale deeply through both nostrils for a count of four (no forcing allowed, go at your own pace)- As you exhale for a count of six (no forcing), create a low, steady humming sound in the back of the throat (You will feel slight vibrations as the air touches the back of the throat, similar to the “mmm” part of “Om”)- Think of happy, resting bees while making these breaths- Practice for about five minutesNotes: As with any pranayama exercise, if light-headedness should occur, return to normal breathing. As you practice, you will be able to increase the lengths of your breaths and possibly create the sound on both the inhales and exhales.
